Datasets for Artists
Veera Jussila
This workshop teaches you how to experiment with small datasets in creative projects. We will focus on subjective, hand-picked datasets that allow us to examine deep learning practices critically. You will first learn the basics of datasets and their creation. We will look into bias and other problems in deep learning datasets that claim to be objective. We will then create a small, subjective dataset together, discussing the values that we build into the dataset. Participants will learn how to embrace the human element and ambivalence in datasets. By getting creative with labels or audience input, we can make the most of our deep learning experiments.
Some programming knowledge is useful for the participants, but no previous machine learning experience is required.
